We have just done the evening meds/weigh in (41gm). This time I held her head, a bit like they do with crop feeding so that they don't regurgitate. She wasn't happy, but I do think it worked to keep more going down. I am going to be worried about her all day tomorrow, even if I don't really have a reason to be, just that I can't check up on her.

This is all such fantastic and positive news Hezz, well done you and well done Smudge, such a little fighter . If you can get her through the next few weeks and detox this out of her body she should make a full recovery . I have read that if it is caught early as was the case with smudge, long term damage to the organs is unlikely . Me and mine continue to send positive and healing vibs to you.

Come on little Smudgy.

stace, you have no idea. She came soooo close ................... But now, besides looking like crap with her grubby face, she seems to be enjoying life again. skysmum, unfortunately there is more going on that just the lead in her system. We thought we had it beat when the test results came back with just a trace in her system, but after stopping the treatment for about 10 days she went rapidly down hill again, back to the blood from her vent. She had had to chance to recontaminate herself in that time, and her kidneys did show enlargement in the Xray - I don't know to what degree. Also a tumour was never totally ruled out. I guess we all were hoping that the lead was the be all and end all of the problem, but not to be. It would seem that the anti-inflammatories, along with the AB's that she was getting along with being treated for the lead had been keeping the tumour/lesion under control. Once we stopped that, that took over again. That's why we are now on twice daily meds for the moment, hopefully to be able to reduce that a little sometime soon, to a maintenance level. She weighed in at 44gms last night and this morning so is even maintaining her weight over night. Thursday morning's weight was only 34gms. She still looks so tiny and is thin, but not looking miserable. Standing up tall in her new slim body.

Understand your concerns Hezz - but dont give up just yet (as Smudgy hasn't) You are both doing wonders and I take my hat off to you. Just a quick question? Is she allowed any fresh stuff whilst on meds?

Ah, sorry Hezz , i wasn't sure if that was something they had just assumed at the start, im back with the programme now. Poor little girl, she's got a lot going on. But your doing so well with her and she is fighting back, as you say say if you can maintain things to a comfortable level with her that's all you can do for now. Still all routing for her

S'okay, skysmum. An easy mistake to make. samwiseg, I haven't been asked to limit her to seed only, and to be honest I doubt I would refuse her the grass anyway. My personal opinion is that the softer her poops are the easier they might pass through. Without being sickly, of course. It is a little hard to be sure, what with Mango doing big sloppy egg-poos, but I feel that Smudge's poops are very large, and rather like several lumped together. I see this on the floor of the cage, but haven't observed her doing them.
