Savlon or Sudocreme are both budgie safe. I think if her feet are naturally softer and more inclined towards irritation, then there is not a lot you can do to toughen them up, unfortunately. How long have you had Ruby, H2O? Thanks. I've had her around two and a half years and she was young when I got her....she's always had sore feet. Looks like I'm making budgie socks later

Well I am no vet that's for sure! However you could phone your vet and ask for advice if that betadine spray would be suitable to use on budgies feet as well? I am sure he wouldn't mind giving that advice out for free and then you wouldn't have to pay a consultation fee Nice idea but no chance...if I phoned my vet practice now they would come up with every excuse under the sun so that they could get a consultation fee out of us....that's why I come on here for my budgies Hmmm, they sound very helpful/encouraging eh?! Just a thought, are you on Twitter? If so you could message @avianvets asking them the same question OR alternatively call them on 01606 350410 as they have advised/helped me with my birds past? Hope that may help?!

Hi H2O. Apologies, haven't been on for a while. There is not a lot I can really advise you about this. My Harvey is being 'treated' at the moment as follows: I put Savlon on my finger (as he steps up) and did this for about 10 days - no improvement, so changed to Sudacrem, for a few days - no improvement. So now I am bathing his feet in tepid water with Epsom salts in (recommended for bumble foot). He just has a little red spot on the bottom of each foot. Doesn't really look sore, doesn't look like bumble foot. He acts completely normally, doesn't rest his feet, (like your budgie) he eats drinks, plays. The problem is not getting any worse, but doesn't seem to be getting any better. Have no experience or advice to give on idodine I'm afraid. I have wrapped his perches in soft cotton (no ends showing) and put padding under the newspaper on the floor so he has a softer landing if he goes down. I will post on here of Harvey's progress in case it is of help to anyone. I hope you manage to find a 'cure' or relief for your little budgie. Sorry I can't be of much help really.

H2O. Sorry, I forgot the most important thing, that is I use the cream whether it be Savlon or Sudacrem twice a day, once in the morning, once in the evening. Epson salts you can get from most chemists I think. My memory fails me I have asked for so many things at the chemist (for budgies and chickens would you believe) to find that they don't do anymore. If not the chemist you can definitely get it on-line. For bumble foot the mix of Epson Salts to water is: 1 tsp salts to 1 gallon of water!!! So I have used a small amount on the tip of a teaspoon in 1/2 pint of water. I melt the salts in hot water then add cold to get it to the tepid temperature. At the moment I have only done it for two days, once a day. Hope that helps. Good luck.

This morning I put on my well used budgie gloves and had a good look at Ruby's feet. I noticed her nails were too long and so managed to trim them but I also saw that it does now look like Bumble Foot ...I have applied Sudacrem as it's the only thing I have at the moment but will get some Epsom salts today and give that a try. Thanks for everyone's help, it's very much appreciated. x

Just had a look H2O and most pharmacies sell Epson Salts, even Amazon as well as other on-line companies. I notice also that Tesco do an Epsom Salt cream - that may be useful.

Sorry to say H2O that does look like bumble foot to me. Take out the perches in her cage, put soft flooring for her to walk on, try and keep her quiet so she doesn't climb all over the cage, cover her cage and keep her warm. So sorry.

Hi I'm not familiar with this product and am always a little dubious about sprays around birds due to their very sensitive respiratory tract. I would suggest that the liquid would be safer to use. best wishes

"cover her cage and keep her warm"...OMG is it that serious that she's likely to die?

Cover her cage to stop her from being too active, make sure she isn't in any draughts (like you would normally). Leave perhaps one side open so she can see out, but just keep her calm so she doesn't climb all over the cage. Put the Sudacrem twice daily.

H2O - google 'bumblefoot in Barries Busgies'. Barrie Shutt is the expert on budgies and has a brilliant website. You will find loads of information on there.

On checking the pictures you put up H2O, I really think it would be advisable to take Ruby to an avian vet. If you haven't got an avian vet near tell the vet what you want, don't be fobbed off with just anything because they don't know about birds. Say that you want an antibiotic cream (not sure how Sudacrem fits in here???) Bumble foot is really quite a serious problem.
