What a great job H2O, I'm sure Ruby is feeling so much better. Can I ask where you bought the "Fucidin", I remember a neighbour telling me about it, but she said she could only buy it when she went on holiday to Spain.

Another question if you don't mind H2O? When I research Fucidin cream in Boots the chemist, they come up with 'Dermalex'. Could you possibly post a picture of the Fucidin cream packet/tube that you have. As it is so expensive I want to make sure I get the right thing. Many thanks. Just for future reference for everyone:
fusidic acid
Fucidin cream contains the active ingredient fusidic acid, which is an antibacterial agent used to treat a number of bacterial skin infections. Fucidin ointment contains sodium fusidate, which is the sodium salt of fusidic acid. Fusidic acid is a type of medicine called an antibiotic.13 Sep 2011

I mentioned the use of cidal soap to OH last night (he is a nurse) and he said that is it one of the recommendations for people with scabies. So it definitely should be put on the list of treatments for bumblefoot, as h20 has proven ...... it was not a fluke, that the soap helped Ruby.

That is absolutely fantastic H2O! What a result! Ruby must be feeling loads better. I am going to follow suit and get some Cidal soap and Fucidin. Had a look for Cidal soap this morning in Asda but they didn't have any, so will research on-line for both items and go shopping again. Thank you so much for letting me (and others)know. Harvey's feet are no worse and no better, so I think he needs a change of medication. Thanks again. Cidal soap is difficult to find in shops these days, it used to be sold every where but now I get it from either Superdrug or Home Bargains store...they both sell it in twin packs...also some 99p stores sell it...I've found Boots stopped selling it some time ago...most small chemists will often order it in for you if you ask. As for Fucidin cream, that's human cream and only available on prescription from a Doctor...it was prescribed for me as I have skin allergies so this is why I tried it on Ruby. I'm still bathing with Cidal as if this is bacteria related then Ruby's feet have to be kept clean. I have been using Fucidin in the evening and Dermidex cream on Ruby's feet in the morning rather than the Sudocrem now as this has an anaesthetic effect and is proving to be really good for pain relief...it works like Savlon but takes away pain so Ruby can still get around and eat etc without pain in her feet affecting her....this has worked well and now she has really perked up rather than sitting feeling miserable...we all know how we feel when in pain, we just don't want to do anything and this can be a vicious circle of decline so my only thinking is keeping Ruby motivated enough to eat and socialise as she normally would rather than sit and get worse from the pain. Dermidex is also difficult to find and I have had to order mine from small chemists as Boots and the like don't sell it anymore due to wanting to push their own products. Fucidin cream is a human cream and only available on prescription from a Doctor...it was prescribed for me as I have skin allergies so this is why I tried it on Ruby...I have been through so many creams over the years Fucidin is the brand name and it's basically Fusidic Acid cream 2%...see pic. Sorry hun I have no knowledge of 'Dermalex' so can't comment...never used it or heard of it before...sorry. I am also using DERMIDEX Cream which has proved to be excellent at helping with any pain while healing the sores.

Maybe in Spain they sell it without a prescription...probably it's sold over the counter and I bet it's a darn sight cheaper then over here...when your neighbour next goes maybe she could bring us back a load

Regarding rope perches, are you able to provide a mixture of perches, rope (I am presuming you are meaning cotton?), sisal rope, and one or two natural branch perches of different diameters? That is probably the best mix for someone like Ruby. You would just need to keep an eye on her claws to be sure that they are getting the wear that is needed. Thanks hun. Oh yeah, claws...forgot about that...rope perches wouldn't be any good long term for that.

Update: Ruby is feeling so much better and I know that because she's recking stuff...only budgie I've had that demolishes the cuttle fish and throws it everywhere...she stopped doing this when her feet were sore. So now I need everyone's thoughts and advice re treatment. How long do I treat Ruby's feet for? It's been one week and the sores are all gone and the skin on her feet is much better...now do I continue to treat with Fucidin cream and if so how long for or do I just wash with Cidal and hope that keeping her feet clean of bacteria will be enough...sorry to ask but I haven't a clue as to length of treatment, I don't want to over medicate. Shirls, I hope your budgie is feeling better hun.

Thanks H2O. I'm sure Harvey is completely unaware that there is anything wrong with his feet! He is very happy in his 'own' space with visitors! I can just see the red spot on each foot. So I'm trying to prevent it getting really bad and hopefully clear it up altogether. I would say as long as you can't see any redness or soreness on Ruby's feet that you could stop the treatment and then keep a close eye on it. I am so relieved that the treatment you gave her really worked well as she was really bad to start with. Well done you! You now have one really very happy, destructive, budgie!

Have you found the reason for Ruby's sore feet H2O? I think I went too fat on the size of the perches thus making her perch awkwardly...can't think of anything else it could be...I've now downsized the perches and she seems much happier...I suppose I'm like most animal lovers, I want to do the very best but ended up causing problems...I thought fatter perches would have made them happy but it's obviously the wrong thing....hey ho, you live and learn. To be honest even to this day I'm not completely sure what size is correct so any advice would be great. Thanks x
