Oh poor Hibs, you did really well to save him.

It is so sweet how the flock is looking out for Patch. You are doing a great job taking care of him, and it won't be long until the meds are done.

Thank you Marianne Marlow and criswell. I'm sure you both know the sensation of guilt you feel when things go wrong for the little buddies.

I have also noticed that my two guys' droppings vary with diet and stress, especially Tweetie Pie. Buddy seems to get over things fairly quickly but Tweetie Pie is so skittish that things seem to stay with him more. Patch's droppings don't look that off to me. He might be drinking more water because of the meds, making his droppings more wet.

I'm feeling somewhat reassured about Patch's droppings. Thank you everyone, that helps 😊

It was really difficult to get Patch off of his perch or cage bars this evening. He was calm as you like but he's learned that if he hangs on, he goes nowhere. Still, I managed to get him out of his cage and his Baytril and Loxicom into him.
He was very sulky afterwards. I had determined that there's no need to segregate him now as I feel I have a handle on the droppings situation so I left the hospital cage door open. Both Eeyore and Mr Hibs visited him but he rebuffed all efforts - so I shut his door. Later he perked up a bit so I let him out and he is currently snuggling with the flock in the budgie aviary.
Patch has had a good day today. He invented sweetcorn, you know! (He discovered that sweetcorn is edible and now the entire flock will eat it.)

I'm glad Patch has had a good day and he must really like snuggling with his buddies again. I feel such a meanie when I have to give medicine, and it's awful seeing them feeling upset and stressed after the medicine. And I do feel very guilty when things go wrong.

Is Patch okay today? I'm worried as you have not updated this thread.

He's not had a great day today, he seems to have slept a fair bit. The seniors have been trying to gee him up but little success. He's currently snuggled up with Squeak.
On the other hand, he continues to vocalise with some quiet contact calling. I'm glad he's more chatty than he was.
Not looking forward to tonight's dosing. It's the last of the loxicom though, so that's something.

Oh, poor little sausage. I do hope he picks up.
Does he still have a few more days of antibiotics?

Finish the Baytril in the 6th. It's a really long haul even if it's only a week!

Sending you warm wishes that it goes well. Whenever I have to grab Buddy, he gives me what I call bites of protest - enough to let me know he doesn't like it but he never breaks my skin or hurts. He'll also let out a little scream of protest. Tweetie Pie on the other hand will scream his head off and try to rip my hand off - he usually will break my skin in a spot or two.

Ouch, tweetiepiesmom ! Patch has "bitten" me but I've had harder tweaks from being pinched between two stalks of celery. He's very gentle. I got Patch out of the aviary OK after a bit of a dance but the meds delivery was awful. I doubt I got any in. Patch can pull his head into his body so tight that you imagine he has no neck. Also he can rotate himself so that no matter how you hold him, he is facing away from the syringe. It was a nightmare. Interestingly, afterwards he had the briefest of sulks and was then wandering around and chirping, presumably proud of himself for winning this round! They are all quiet and in their aviaries now. I am having a very large glass of wine or two, for my nerves.

Try this - when you are holding him, ruffle his head feathers by lightly rubbing from the back of his head toward his cere. It will calm him for a few seconds which might let you get the meds to him better. A trick I learned from my avian vet.
