He is eaten a bit of egg. I wish I understand the cracking sound he makes after he has eaten. I even showed the vet a video of him doing it and she didn’t know either. It sounds like he’s biting on seed…..even after egg.

It could just be him grinding his beak or chewing on seed. I know you say he does it even after egg, but they store seeds in their crop to eat later on, so he could have brought some back up to chew on. Some of my budgies chew louder than others

I will try and upload the video of him doing it, and I only hear it when he is having a bad day.

This was in April, and every time he goes down, he does this too……But not when he is feeling better.

Gosh that's an odd sound to be making.
Charlie is so imitative, I'm leaning towards it being a noise that he has heard and is copying. It does not sound like it comes from a physiological source, if you see what I mean. Mind you, I'm listening to it through my phone's speaker, it may soon different when in the room with him.

I don’t think it’s anything he has learned, also his head shakes a bit too. It definitely doesn’t sound like a cracking seed noise. Its a sharp snapping sound and he only does it when he is Ill . It sounds just as it’s heard on vidio. I am pretty sure it has something to do with his illness…….But what?

It just sounds so odd to my ears ... but I don't doubt you, Ladybird. I regret having no clue what the noise represents.

It’s odd, definitely sounds like a mechanical click rating a breathing one. It reminds me of the noise when you light/turn on a gas hob, until it ignites

If he’s saying it, rather than his body making that noise, would his chest move? I can’t remember when they’re talking, chirping

When he talks, his chest moves…does that help?

So I’m thinking he’s ‘saying’ it. It just doesn’t sound like a normal click. Obv I don’t know, just how it sounds etc

I'm kind of with ffiscool here. That sound isn't organic. Again though, the acoustics of how the sound was captured by Ladybird and then played back on a mobile phone may be a factor.
I'm reminded of a night I spent in Cyprus when I was woken up by what I thought was the air conditioning unit preparing to explode. Turned out, it was a type of cricket which was making the most mechanical kind of noises I've ever heard come from a living creature - and I've heard David Cameron speaking.

😃 lozenge that made me smile. Maybe Charlie swallowed a cricket! It really does sound like I hear it on the iPad …a sort of snap…. I just don’t understand why he does it when he isn’t well. He actually came out of his cage this afternoon, he cuddled into my neck and went to sleep bless him. Now my neck smells of Metacam!
