All he will eat is red millet, not good for his liver but he needs to eat.

Silly question but have you offered him all the foods? breeder mix, egg, oats, any kind of mash that he can eat such as potato or sweet potato?

When Sky was really ill I would crush oats and also bits of millet that were dehusked that I could find in his seed mix, mix those with egg and he'd eat that.
Come on Charlie eat something other than red millet to make you feel better.
Can you sprinkle the red millet on something to tempt him?

When I gave him egg a few days ago it seemed to make the diarrhoea worse Marianne…..would you try again? He did eat some. He is just sleeping most of the day, and gets a bit more lively later in the afternoon……. Yesterday when he seemed a bit better, I moved him into the doorway for some fresh air and a bit later he came out and sat with me and played a bit…… This is how he has been with this illness…quiet all day and coming round towards evening….. But he is very quiet this time..

Were his droppings of normal colour or were they green when he had watery droppings after eating the egg?
Was he any more lively?

They were green and watery, but it could have been that I started the Metacam the day before. He did enjoy the egg, so I am going to try him again . It’s SO difficult….is it the Borno….is it his liver, My feelings are it’s probably both. He might pick up again….he has before. I appreciate your help.

It is very hard to know what is right, as you have said. But he needs to eat and the egg might give him some energy and if he enjoyed the food then that is good too.
What I read about the Borno is that soft food is easier for them to digest than seeds.

I have given him egg and he seemed eager to have a few bites….and then left it and is now making that clicking noise…..I know it’s definitely not a noise he has learnt…..and he definitely does it after eating. I feel sure it has some relevance to the illness . I wonder why he is obsessed with red millet…….I know most budgies like it but he just seems obsessed . If he was really hungry he would eat his other seeds and dry egg food etc……but he will just sit there until I put the red millet in and they eat it really quickly……. Sorry I know I seem to be clutching at straws for answers……..But the Avain vet wasn’t a lot of help really.

It’s so hard as you don’t know what’s going on. I’m glad, even though it means he’s not ok, that he is getting comfort from sitting on you.
All you can do, is what you’re doing. Hopefully he’ll eat more egg and perk up a bit later.

Poor Charlie. I really hope he's marshalling his strength and comes through this current phase

Would he eat oatmeal - is it porridge that UK people call it? If so, you could mix a bit of other foods in it.
Poor little guy!

About an hour ago I gave him his Metacam and antibiotics. I have just given him some of the breeders special mix and he ate quite a lot, so that will have done him good. He also just had a little talk saying…I can talk but can you fly…..So he must feel a little better this afternoon. I will try him with oats, he may like them…. Thank you everyone 😘

Charlie has been on the antibiotics for a week now but isn’t improving. He is very quiet, not wanting to come out much only to sit with me. He isn’t eating a lot but eats the breeders mix if I hold it to him…. He sits and waits for the red millet . He seems to pick up a bit more later in the day…….one odd thing he is doing is pecking at his iodine block a lot…and he doesn’t normally touch it…….he is such a worry to me 🥲
