It all sounds like normal budgie behaviour to me with equal shares of chattering, playing and squabbling. Your description of The Swing Wars always makes me smile

It's so funny how budgies are so susceptible to 'swing madness'. I do feel sorry for Dexter though as it's always him that gets chucked off a swing.

Bertie has found out how to unhook one side of his swing. He still sits on it even though it's wonky, silly bird!
From now on I'll be calling him BertieB. There seem to be one or two Berties on here

The other day I moved a swing and didn't hang it up properly and one side came lose. My boys didn't mind a wonky swing either.
Surprisingly they all slept well last night and everyone was where I left them.

Yes, wonky swings don't bother my lot either. ... unless it is because someone has chewed through the upright of the swing and the whole lot falls down in a budgie/swing heap. Trees don't grow with their branches perfectly horizontal; the buds probably appreciate a bit of variety added to their daily perching.

I've just bought them a java multiperch which is nice and curved so I think they will enjoy it. I've not given it to them yet as I expect they will be scared of it. It's part of the plan to make their cage a bit more natural.

I have stuff hanging all round the room. BertieB likes to perch on this and look out of the window (and poo on the sofa )

Randolph Carter doesn't fly the best so doesn't come out of the cage very often. That spiral is good. Where did you buy it? I had a cotton one but had to take it away as Randolph Carter started chewing it and all the other cotton perches on the outside of the cage.

Don’t give him cotton, criswell, if he is a chewer. If you want something like this think about getting some some sisal rope. If you want the rigidity of the boing, wrap one with the natural rope and tie off with cable ties.

Don't worry , I removed everything cotton as soon as Randolph Carter started chewing it, which was pretty much as soon as he moved in with Dexter. Dexter was not happy about it but I made a spiral on the outside of the cage from the flexi perch that comes with the piano 6 cage. The spiral in blue48's photo is made of beads and I think Dexter might like it.

Question - what's the problem with chewing cotton?

If they swallow the fibres it can impact their crop.

Randoph Carter really made it his mission to chew the cotton perches. He's very determined when he decides he wants to do something and I came in to find a whole lot of fibres on the floor so all cotton perches were thrown away. Thanks blue48. I think it's so cute that Bertie likes to take his toys out of the box. Criswell had some of his in a roses tub and would sometimes sit on the edge of the pot looking for something he wanted. I have the ferris wheel. Criswell used to play with it but my current boys aren't fussed. I have a similar toy that goes on a perch in their cage and they all play with that. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAROUSEL-BIRD-TOY-Fun-At-The-Fair/282885609327?epid=1505065091&hash=item41dd4bd76f:g:b-8AAOSwSB1aqmij
