Oh criswell - that looks like a fun toy! After the post about the cotton perches, I was watching Buddy and he was picking the perch apart. It looks like something that he just recently started doing because it wasn't frayed very much. What scared me was that as I was watching him, I couldn't tell if he was eating it. I took it right out and put i a couple of branch perches. He was very unhappy and yelled at me - it was his favorite perch. Once again thanks to the members here for helping keep our birds safe and healthy. How is RC feeling today?

Thanks for asking tweetiepiesmom. RC is doing really well. He's had a happy and busy day and I've not seen him napping. He's been a very perky bird all day. I shall weigh him tomorrow, which he won't like but I need to make sure he's keeping his weight up. His droppings are looking good too and there are plenty of them. It's made such a difference not having to catch him. Some birds don't have any interest in chewing cotton perches. Criswell and Dexter didn't chew the cotton spiral at all in 3 years and then Randolph Carter comes along and decides he MUST chew it even though he had balsa wood, paper and cardboard to chew . It's not the most likely that they will swallow any but it's definitely better to be safe even if it has made Buddy cross.

I was never able to grab Bailey, but I had flat scales. I put something on them, that he liked, reset it to zero. So he’d step on, them

Thanks for the suggestion. My scales are flat and I could probably tempt Dexter on to the scales with his peacock but Randolph Carter doesn't often come out of the cage so I can't tempt him on to the scales that way. He doesn't go down to the floor of the cage so I couldn't even get him to go on the scales in the cage(I don't think I could fit the scales through the cage door anyway . The best way to catch RC at the moment is to encourage him to come out of the cage and because he doesn't fly well it's easier to catch him on the roof of the cage, and it's less stressful than chasing him about in the cage. I could try putting the scales on top of the cage but it's a bit high up to see.

The scales need to be on a firm surface anyway, so I don't think you would get an accurate read from either the floor or the top of the cage. If one of mine is being uncooperative regarding the scales, I use a bowl, tare the scales and pop Mr Uncooperative into the bowl. (It is usually one of the budgie boys; how undignified to be put into a kitchen bowl?? )

I'm using the bottom part of a small pet carrier as a weighing bowl and that seems to work ok. I'm sure RC will cope with being caught once a week which is a big improvement on 14 times.

Randoph Carter really made it his mission to chew the cotton perches. He's very determined when he decides he wants to do something and I came in to find a whole lot of fibres on the floor so all cotton perches were thrown away. Thanks blue48 . I think it's so cute that Bertie likes to take his toys out of the box. Criswell had some of his in a roses tub and would sometimes sit on the edge of the pot looking for something he wanted. I have the ferris wheel. Criswell used to play with it but my current boys aren't fussed. I have a similar toy that goes on a perch in their cage and they all play with that. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAROUSEL-BIRD-TOY-Fun-At-The-Fair/282885609327?epid=1505065091&hash=item41dd4bd76f:g:b-8AAOSwSB1aqmijOh, my boy would love that!
He tries to drag his toys out of the box but isn't really strong enough so I take them out for him. Often he get right into the box and scrabbles around. Sometimes my living room floor looks like it did when my grandchildren were babies
I do apologise for bombarding you all with photos and now a video, but I love him, and I'm proud of him like a child.

That's a lovely video blue48. There can never be too many photos and videos of budgies! With the carousel toy, keep an eye on it as Criswell did get a bit aggressive with it a couple of times and bit a few bits of plastic off - he was trying to get at the bell inside I think. My current 3 haven't done any damage at all to the new one though.

Not sure about my budgies, but I always loved the knock-down penguin, and always re-named Pingu in our house. I pulled out our old one for Loki yesterday. He was very intrigued because he couldn't get hold of it, initially. Then he learnt that he could grab Pingu by the throat and drop him over the cliff. Game over.

I have the yellow version of the penguin, which is probably supposed to be a duck. Criswell loved it and spent a lot of time chatting to it and bashing it. My current boys don't pay much attention to it. When Dexter was on his own he used to get very cross with the duck if it was too close to Miss Peacock.

Randolph Carter was not keen on being captured yesterday. He wouldn't even let me shoo him out of the cage. He's 2g up on last week which is a relief.

My boys are all doing well. They are happy with the antibiotic water, and don't mind that I dip their greens in it too. They've had 10 days of antibiotics in the water. RC droppings have looked excellent for the past week.
We had the usual silliness over the swings at bedtime tonight but they all found somewhere acceptable to sleep in the end.
Dean Stockwell had a check up on Tuesday but I'll let him have his own thread to discuss his feathers.

Such good news! Glad they don't mind getting their meds in the water.
