Mine also took longer for the first shoots to appear. After three days when I didn't see anything I draped a piece of clear plastic wrap over the top of the pot to try and keep some moisture in. You can see I didn't do a very good job planting my seeds. I think there will be enough grass to give Buddy a taste so I can see if he likes it.

That's pretty much the same as mine tweetiepiesmom although yours look a bit stronger. I plan to let mine get a lot bigger and fill out a bit before I give them to Willow. As you say, they'll make a tasty treat and if he likes them, which I suspect he will, then I can keep them going on an ongoing basis.

Mine is coming along well.
I started another pot, with all the seeds from the budgie mix that BertieB doesn't eat. He always leaves the little black ones, and the big ones (sorry, no idea what they are). I don't know if they'll grow, but I figure if they do, it'll be safe to eat.

blue48 glad yours are doing well. I haven't tried growing the leftover seed but it sounds like it's worth a try. If you need another source the wild seed mix that I've just posted about in the Safe Wild Foods thread seems good so far.

Mine are still sparse but growing. I cut one of the blades and held it up to Buddy and he chewed on it. He's gotten so picky about his greens since I've given him the wheat grass! He no longer eats the millet seeds or dill. When I put the wheat grass in his cage, he jumps on my hand trying to get to it and his majesty bites at my hand if I'm not moving fast enough for him!

tweetiepiesmom I'm definitely going to have to try wheat grass - without the biting though!

Would love to hear how your buds take to wheat grass willowsmum. I get mine at my grocery store in the organic produce section. I think a lot of people use it for juicing. Its been grown hydroponically so still has the roots attached. I trim the root off. Buddy eats the grass and the seed attached and he will chew on the bit of root still attached.

tweetiepiesmom love the pic - he's really tucking in! I'm avoiding shops as much as possible so it will probably have to wait until things are back to normal but I'll definitely give it a try. Apart from fruit there seems to be very little that Willow doesn't enjoy and if it's leafy and green it's usually a winner.

I offered BertieB some millet grass yesterday. He cocked his head and looked at it suspiciously, gave it a little chew and then ignored it. I'll give it another try today.

I hope Bertie does like it blue48I've still not started any growing but I did spent half an hour outside sorting out pots in my mini greenhouse. I grow spring greens, dandelions, ribwort plantain and grass for my rabbit. So I'm all set to sow some tomorrow or the next day... I'll grow the budgies leaves indoors as I'm paranoid that the boys will catch something from the birds in the garden.

He seems to enjoy chewing it up and then dropping it in the floor. I hope he gets some nutrients out of it.
I don't have a garden and I'm suspicious of anything growing in the wild. You never know if it has been sprayed with pesticides or any other nasties.

blue48 I know what you mean about chewing and dropping things. I give Willow a lovely pot of fresh sprouted seeds and then watch as he twiddles them around in his beak and drops them on the floor He does enjoy doing it though!

I hope everyone's millet grass is coming along well. BertieB is really enjoying his now and I'm really happy about that because although I've tried him on many fruits and veg about the only thing he seems to like is peppers, and now millet grass
