Does sound like a toe rather than a leg issue.

I think so too Marianne and no I don’t have a flat perch. He is definitely not going down to the bottom of the cage to eat or drink, so I have made sure he has food and water near where he sits. I definitely won’t offer to let him out, just rest for him. I really hope he improves because I really don’t want to have to catch him and put him in the small carrying cage, I am afraid the stress might kill him….he hates being handed. Plus it would have to be an ordinary vet. Ohhhh these precious buds can be such a worry 🥲

I managed to get a picture of Charlie’s foot ….and an update on him…. My opinion is that he has a slight weakness in his foot…could he have knocked it somehow or had a slight stroke I really don’t know….. As I write this, he is sitting on the top of his cage he was desperate to come out and have a good fly round. He lands Ok but limps a bit when he walks due I think to the weakness. When he is perching he just hovers it above his perch and chats away. He is eating well and talking away as usual…..So for now I can’t see what a vet could do to help him, but I would do absolutely anything to help ….Maybe the weakness will improve 🤞🏻. Any opinions I would be so grateful for…. ( yes I must cut that nail)…..

I can't really tell, is it the foot without the leg ring?
Any way you could touch his toes to see if he feels it?

Yes Marianne it’s the one without the ring……the other foot is fine I think it just looks a bit odd because he is stood on his cuttlefish. He can feel the foot I tried touching it when he was sitting on my finger. He does land on both feet but is still hovering it above his perch when resting. Does the foot look a bit darker to you? Both feet look dry too. Thank you for helping.

It could be the lighting. If he’ll let you, maybe you could rub something in?

Doesn't really look darker, but the foot closer to the camera is a bit blurry so it's hard to tell.
If he can feel the foot then that is good news. It might be a toe that he's bruised then. Or he's sprained his leg/foot.

It doesn’t look any different to me. If he is using it to land then it can’t be too bad. It takes time for any injury to heal; we have the option of getting off our feet and allowing rest to help recover, the birds don’t have that option.

It’s almost a week since whatever happened to his leg / foot . He is eating, talking , but still not moving all around his cage , I have moved his food and water to where he sits. He likes to come out for a fly round but is definitely not his lively self, still not wanting to put his foot on the perch a lot, but he does land on it……..Here is my dilemma, and I am sorry if I seem to be fussing to much…….We don’t have an Avian vet where we live, so I could only take him to our local vet. I also think trying to catch him to put him into a small cage could further damage him and really stress him….The other option would be to take him in his cage, difficult as we are both disabled but could manage just about. Other than that we could just see how he goes on for a further few days. I Hate to think he is in any pain because I am doing nothing… A friend said to me yesterday…..you worry too much he’s just a budgie he will be ok……. Maybe she is right, I do worry about him. PS….sorry last comment…….Would you remove the food from by his perch and see he if he will go down for his food if he gets hungry?

In my own experience it's only worth taking them to a normal vet (unless they do have some knowledge of budgies, you always get exceptions) if you know that you need baytril because that is all they seem to offer budgies.
I wouldn't move his seed pot away, he needs to rest his foot as much as possible, so keep it easier for him.
It might take more than a week to heal.

Thank you Marianne I appreciate that. I did ask at both possible vets and both vets with best knowledge of budgies were on holiday. One of the vets said they would look at the pictures and video clip for £30…..but would need to see him before prescribing pain killers…..so I didn’t see the point of that!

No, that does seem a bit silly. You send the video (and pay £30) cos you can't get there and then they expect you to come in before they "might" prescribe meds.

I have now made an appointment with an Avian vet on Friday. it’s about one and a half’s miles drive away, but I can’t go on worrying like this……He is used to going in the car, so I am leaving him his cage….better I think than trying to catch him and do more damage..
