Glad it’s over and the vet was nice and good. Hopefully he’ll feel a lot better soon with it.

I'm glad it was a worthwhile trip for you ladybird, you can rest easy now, knowing that with the help of the meds and time, it will heal. Charlie seems none the worse for his trip out other than the need for an early night. She sounds like a good vet. I hope you and Charlie, have a restful night.

That is great news that it's a sprain. Hopefully, under your care, he will make a full recovery in a few weeks.

So happy your vet visit went well. She sounds wonderful. Hopefully the sprain heals up now and he doesn't overdo it in the meantime. BTW, my Tweetie Pie is 30 grams and Buddy is about 29 grams. My little petite boys compared to most on this forum.

That's great news. It sounds like it was well worth any stress to have such a thorough exam from a competent vet. If only you could have known that they would be so good before hand it would have saved you a lot of worry. I'm sure that the meds and rest will lead to a full recovery. Hope you both get a good night's rest, it's been a stressful day. I can't believe how light he is, he doesn't look that small - he must be all fluffy feathers

Thank you everyone, yes it was definitely worth making the journey even though we have several vets near where we live. It was nice to have all you lovely people to advise me also. Yes Charlie is very light ( you should see him when he’s wet! )…. His long feathers make him look bigger.

Relieved for you and Charlie ladybird that the trip is over and you know exactly what is causing the trouble. Wishing Charlie a very speedy recovery and some less stressed days for you. The vet sounds so reassuring and experienced at making sure the experience is as calm as possible for birds. It’s always good to know an specialist vet you trust as you can always follow them to another practice if they move to a different one within the area.

Thank you Ariella , yes I am so glad I took him. It was a long way to have to go and expensive but he is so worth it. I have done my best for him and that’s what counts. She was a lovely vet and apparently has a good reputation …….Because we had traveled quite a way to see her, she even offered to get us a cup of tea…how nice is that? 👏👏👏

Just update on Charlie. He seems to be putting his foot down a bit more…but he doesn’t want to jump from perch to perch he prefers to climb round the sides of his cage, so still not going down to his usual food dishes. He did try to jump to a lower perch but landed on the cage floor. Could he have lost a bit of confidence? He is eating well and can fly ok

He may have lost some confidence or just not want to put it to the test. That's actually a good thing so he won't re-hurt it before its fully healed.

Yes, sounds like that. It’s like us I suppose, you gingerly do it, but know if you do more, then it hurts more. I’m sure as long as he’s careful, which it sounds he will be, it won’t be too long before it’s a lot better

He sometimes flutters to the bottom of the cake as though he has missed his footing…..I just turned to look because he did and he was climbing back up his ladder! I still have feeding and water dishes at the top of cage near his perches…..am wondering how long to do that for as he obviously won’t try to use his normal dishes while I do that…. I obviously don’t want to rush things.

Maybe put them lower for a bit, then gradually higher as he uses his foot more?

His lower perches are as low as they will go. He has a Vision cage and the clear bottom of the cage is quite deep making it difficult.

Ah. Hmm. Someone with a vision might have other thoughts
