When a bird is moulting it may appear that they pull out feathers but what they are doing is getting rid of feathers that are just about to fall and are perhaps annoying them by not sitting properly. They are not actually pulling feathers or plucking, just helping nature along.

I haven't done an update for a couple weeks.
Jessie has been very docile today, she has been sitting on my hand and perching next to me. I had fallen asleep on the couch and she was still there sitting beside me when I woke up. I've been able to pick her up and play with her tail and she doesn't mind at all. I put her back in the cage for the evening as its almost time when they start settling down for the night.
Tweety has been enjoying his toys I've been stuffing them with hay and cabbage leafs which kept him entertained for quite a while. I like it when he hangs upside down while trying to pull out the cabbage leaf from the toy.
I've still not managed to tame Mango he is still very nervous of me but he has been happy chirping away and he is bonding with Tweety which is good.
Mango doesn't like it when tweety gives Jessie attention he starts tapping his beak on the perch and will fly down to where they are. Jessie and Mango are pretty close. I think Mango is the king of the flock.

I'm getting the materials to build my budgie aviary tomorrow so I'm very much looking forward to finally getting it done. I'll have the frame built in no time and I've found somebody that is selling stainless steel mesh. I'm thinking about getting into budgie breeding. Somebody contacted me this afternoon to ask if I wanted to buy a breeding pair of budgies with there eggs and nest box that they no longer want and I'm still thinking about it. Ideally I need to have the aviary built before I get anymore budgies but at the same time this opportunity might not come up again. I'm not going to go crazy on breeding I will have a controlled breeding program so I don't end up with to many budgies. Its so tempting to buy them

Exciting that you have all the materials to build your aviary. Sounds like a lot of work, but I am sure it'll be worth it.

Most definitely. The budgies will then be able to spread there wings whenever they want to and it be nice seeing them in a much bigger enclosure.
I gave them a boiled egg this morning with the shell on it. They will eat like royalty today along with some fresh vegetables but they have gone off there broccoli and cabbage and kale they are very much into there seed mix and wont touch anything else at the moment. I think the boiled egg might be to cold for them as its just come out the fridge so once it gets to room temperature they might take an interest in it. I'll be collecting my aviary materials in a bit.

My flock have fads as far as veggies are concerned. Currently seeding grass, mint, apple, spinach stalks are in favour. Broccoli is a little passé. Coriander is out. I haven't seen kale for a while - it was hugely popular at one point, then not so much. Sweetcorn is king, of course!

Fruit is out. I gave my budgies a bit of apple and pear and they never touched it. I might give the some blackberries once they ripen and Elder Berries and any other wild foods I manage to forage, of course I'll look things up in google just to make sure its safe for budgies as one can never be to careful.
They ate a bit of broccoli today and they loved the egg. They went crazy for the leafy greens when I first fed it to them, that was probably the first time they have ever seen leafy greens. Most budgies from pet stores are bought up on bird seed.
They have got bored of the leafy greens now especially the cabbage and kale although Tweety likes to play with cabbage leafs they don't eat them anymore and the kale never gets touched neither. I haven't tried giving them sweetcorn yet. Seeding grass seed sounds like a good idea.
I've been trying to get them to use the bird bath and I use cabbage leafs for that with water. MR Noisy was the only one who used it I don't think my other 3 budgies know what a bird bath is.

None of my budgies will get into the bath on their own but they crowd around Chocobo when she has her regular bath. Mr Hibs and Herman have each tried joining Chocobo in the bath. The favourite thing is standing on the rim of the bath whilst Chocobo splashes them with her wings. Even Eeyore seems to enjoy that.

Have you tried a shower under the kitchen tap with the budgies? Barney will not entertain getting in a bath of water but he loves to shower under a very thin trickle of water from the kitchen tap. He comes in the kitchen on my shoulder and then when I turn on the tap he runs down my arm and into my cupped hands to have his shower. It's quite possibly the cutest thing. When he's done (and he barely even gets wet he gets so fluffed up and shakes constantly) he runs back up my arm to my shoulder.

Barney is so sweet! None of my flock would tolerate that, I believe. I might see if I can introduce a kitchen tap shower facility but I can imagine I'll need Chocobo's help with the budgies.

Sometimes I use a plant spray bottle. Its only ever had water in it so its safe to use and can mist them with that and they fluff up and shake the water off. I don't do it too often mainly when its been a hot day.
I had a bit of a scare earlier. The budgies where in there cage and I had some work to do outside, my neighbor decided to break out the spray paint but I didn't realize until I smelt the fumes so I rushed in to close the doors and windows but leaving the back windows open. Luckily the budgies are ok and nothing got in the house but there was slight smell of spray paint. Its all cleared now. I had to put the budgies in the kitchen away from it just to be on the safe side. They are back in the living room settling down for the night.

A scary moment with the spray painting! I'm glad you averted a bad situation.

Its just one of those things I will have to be aware of at all times especially in the summer months when I have to open windows. I guess it all goes with budgie keeping.

I have noticed that my budgies are growing and looking much healthier than ever before. When Mango plucked himself a while ago you would not even notice now.
They wasn't keen on the heat wave and Tweety and Mango had a few squabbles. They are entering there adult stage now. They don't eat as much as they did when I first got them so I think they eat more when they are babies although MR Noisy ate quite a bit when I had him, it could just be they don't eat much during the heat of summer, however they are all looking very healthy.

I noticed that mine did not eat as much when it was hot, they just sat about and rested.
I'm glad that Mango is not plucking anymore, great news.
