The other 3 budgies are a lot more settled now I've separated the rescue budgie. He is much older than the other three. He is still screaming and squawking. He has been like this since yesterday and he wont calm down.
I'm starting to wonder if this is why he was abandoned by his previous owner the way his behaving however when I rescued him, he was ok with me and would sit on my head or shoulders. He was plucking himself at first so I could tell he was stressed even then but he calmed down and he was very tame. I decided to get him some budgie friends because I wasn't going to be home everyday to keep him entertained.
The issue started when I got the other budgies he completely changed and now I'm unable to control his noise or calm him. He wont respond to me at all. I think he may have been alone all his life I'm not entirely sure.

Maybe you could put just one of the three budgies with him and see if that calms him down.

I could do that. Two of the budgies are fully bonded so I can't split them up which leaves the yellow female. If I put her in with him she will start wanting to go back with her other two budgie friends and I'd then get endless chirping back and forth between the two cages from each side of the house with the yellow female climbing the walls of the cage. That is what happened the last time I did that. Its got rather a bit complicated. He will get another day on his own and then I will bring them all in to a room where they can all have there fly time together then he will go back in his own cage. I think that is the best way forward at this time.

will that not aggravate him further, if he has flying time and then isolated?

If you are in any doubt about his health then a trip to the vet is probably best.

I finally managed to calm him down after 2 hours and I got him to sit in my hand. I then left him to fly about a bit and his gone back with the others so fingers crossed that there is no more screaming from him at least for today. I must admit I thought I was going to lose my sanity at one point.

It's amazing how beautiful and lovely our birds are and then suddenly, they are pulling our brains out through our ears!

He has started up again not only that but he is unsettling all the other budgies again. I am considering finding him another home which isn't an easy decision to make because I have 3 other budgies to think about plus those three are young budgies so I don't want them being scared all the time by his screaming or getting into the habit of having to be scared. I also have my own sanity and neighbors to think about as well.
I will try work with him over the bank holiday weekend then on Tuesday I'm going to take him to the vet to get him checked over, if there is nothing medically wrong with him then I will have consider finding him a new home.

Wow he has gone very quiet now. I filled a small tub up with water and put cabbage and kale in there and he loved it. He has been bathing himself and rolling about in the water having a good splash about. He has become very calm and quiet now. It makes me wonder if he had something irritating his body?

Do you have any Ivermectin treatments available? You can get ones where you drop a bit on the back of their head, or you can get S76 which goes in the water.
All your birds must be treated if you treat any of them.

I used S76 for Max as there’d be no way I could have grabbed him in the early days.
As long as they’re good drinkers, it’s fine. It’s also done over a few weeks, so you’d need to follow the instructions. If ivermectin and you’re able to hold him, that’s very effective. Even if there’s no irritation, neither product will do any harm.

S76 is by far the best way to go forward if your birds are not used to/happy with being handled but as ffiscool has said, it's a process and you have to follow the instructions.

I've not seen anything on them I'll make sure I get them some treatment. Would bark from an elm tree help in any way?

I don't know what elm tree bark will do but perhaps someone else knows?
