My budgies are slowly changing into adulthood, Tweety and Mango's ceres have gone blue. Jessies cere is brownish pink.
I had notice that there are blood stains under Tweety's wing I think he might have caught it on the budgie toy because of the way he likes to play with them and hang upside down and stuff. There claws are looking a bit long and I was just wondering if there was a natural they could maintain them?
My budgies hate being picked up so I want to avoid trying to trim there nails myself as I would probably completely lose there trust after that. I almost got Mango to step up this morning.

Natural tree branches of differing thicknesses and textures. These are all you need to keep a healthy bird’s claws trimmed. Do not start trimming them yourself unless an individual bird has some sort of health issue which causes them to growing quickly. The claws may look long to you but may be a perfect length for the birds themselves.

Jessie is showing signs she isn't well today although its not serious and I expect it will pass. Shes on her perch with her wings slightly out. She may have a slight fever they normally do this when they are hot and the hot weather is adding to it. Somebody keeps burning incense so I've had to close the door and windows in the living room where they are.
I got the budgies some more willow branches yesterday with the leaves still on and they enjoyed munching on those.

Do you have a budgie-safe electric fan you can use for the room?
My birbs are wings-out after doing a minimal amount of flying, it's very warm for them. I have the windows open a crack (literaly) and a fan going during the day. My flock doesn't appear to be suffering unduly but they are being sensible about how active they are.

Budgies don’t it their wings out when they are unwell; they fluff themselves up if they are off colour. The wings out are a sure sign that she is feeling the heat. Give her the opportunity to bath, even if she doesn’t take the opportunity.

I've put a small container with shallow water and some hay mixed in so they can bath, Tweety used it but Mango and Jessie didn't go in it. They are all feeling the heat and they were very unsettled this morning.
There is one more day of heat so hopefully it will start to get cooler on Sunday. I read that putting a fan blowing on budgies isn't good but I'll give it a try tomorrow. The other issue with fans is when the temperature is too hot the fans aren't effective anymore and they end up blowing hot air about. I misted them with some water every so often today although I don't like doing it because they might think they have done something wrong.

If you're in London then today, Sunday and Monday are all over 30C.
What it is said to do in hot weather is to close curtains and windows after 10am to block out the heat of the sun and warm air coming in and then have the fan on to blow the cooler air around.

We have an oscillating tower fan, which I make sure is not directly on the budgies. Good thing about a tower fan is a budgie cannot land on it and there is no way to hurt their feet.

I will most definitely have to sort out something like an air conditioning unit now that summer times are getting hotter and UK homes are just not designed to handle this kinda constant heat. My air purifier has stopped working so I will be getting that exchanged when I get time.
The budgies aren't enjoying the heat at all. Tweety's chirps have changed vocally and sound a lot more ear piercing and Jessie has been holding out her wings slightly. They have been better today. I'm hoping that there will be cooler weather this week before another heat wave because my budgies really need a break from it. Its also effecting me and I'm having to soak in a cold bath so I don't get heat exhaustion even the cold water runs warm now.

I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news... this morning Mango has been on top of Jessie mating and there to young to breed. It would be a shame to have nowhere for Jessie to lay her eggs so I'm just wondering should I get a nesting box in there just encase?

Absolutely not! That would be the incentive to start laying. Just because there may be mating happening doesn’t mean there have to be eggs, and you can always run interference for them - break them up when you see it happening. A time-out cage may not be a bad idea.

I would hate to split Mango and Jessie up because they are a bonded pair and they would be missing each other and probably start calling one another non stop.
So there wont be any eggs right? That was my main concern. I don't have the heart to see Jessie's eggs die.
I wont bother with the nesting box.
