I went away for a long weekend about a month ago and when i got back Ada had some faint staining above the cear, but it was fading so i wasnt worried but it didnt compleatly go and last weeks started getting darker, so i called the vets but the exotic vet is away and booked an appoitment for monday 23rd to have her and eagle looked over. However i just got back today form bing out most of the day and ada has realy dark stuff above the cear and some on it. It looks like its come from her nostrel, she has sneezed a few times when i was taking the pic. It kinda looks like dryed blood (reddish brown colour). i cant see any in her cage and she has been on metacam for a few months now for her leg, His poop looks normal and i havent seen him drinking more. (the vets said to keep an eye in his drinking as metacam could hurt his kidneys with longterm use) They are fed on trill, an get millit spratys every day, they dont get much fruit and veg as they are fussy though. Gave them a new treat stick the other day, its for austrailian parakets and it huge (i think its more for cockatieals) Im realy worried incase its the meds or if it this is a sign of something serious. im hoping shes just banged. Could anyone give me any advice? Im going to call the vets in the morning and see it there is anyone who could see her sooner. heres a pic of her now.

Thank you Gaile i never thought of the pins, he has been getting them in on his head. bahaviour wise he seems normal and was singing away to me when i got home and shouted at me for leaving to post here.
Him and eagle have been out tougher all day like they do every day but she has no blood on her so dont think she pecked him. (well at some point she would of as they always peck each other)
Im going to go have a bath and get them both out to have some budgie fun time so i can keep an eye on him.
Just panicking that its something life threating or something.

hmm I'd say dried blood too as there is some of it on the cere. Best thing to do is get a small bowl of warm water and some cotton wool balls. Wrap Ada in a small cloth and bathe her feathers and cere using the water on the cotton wool If it comes off some then it is blood. I can't think of anything else that would cause the staining so quickly.

Thank you Rachael Its defernatly blood, there was more on her when i went up for my bath, the botom of the cere had it over it and some on her beak. There was a bit on two of her claws and her mirror where she has been rubbing her face and nibbling her claws.
When i picked her up she went to poop but i saw nothing come out and she then nibbled her claws then my finger then preened her bum feathers and pulled out a bit of fluff. I checked her bum and it was compleatly clean, fluffey but clean. While in the bath room she did a poop, it was normal sized and consistancy but the poop part was green, so made them a bit of egg food up and she ate some (and got beak covered in it so had to clean her off) and played with her ball. She then at the end did another poop that was a bit watery and had some green in it but not as green as the first poop. When i put her back just now she is preening herself and rubbing those ichy pins on her head and face. She is also sneezing and im sure that is where the blood is comming from. ive not seen her sneezing any up as she is only doing it when i wasnt looking but thinking it cant be a councidence. Is there anything than makes budgies sneeze blood?

just checked her, no blood on her cere or beak just the blood that was on her feathers above the cere, i didnt wash it off of there as i was worried of stressing her out. She does seem to be breathing a bit faster then normal but isnt opening her beak to breath or bobbing her tail. Ill be calling the vets first thing when they open.
Been looking online and im worried its something to do with her kidneys

I don't know what it might be, but you are right to be worried. There don't look to be enough pin feathers there to cause that much blood, but I might be wrong. Good luck with the vet.

Its suprising how much blood can come from a blood feather but I agree it does look too much. How is she this morning? The best thing to do if it is a blood feather and it happens again is to apply cornflour to where it is bleeding. This should help to stop the bleeding although it usually stops itself. Sounds like you are doing the best thing by getting a vet to check her out

well she is still here. When i check on her last night befor going to bed there was no new blood and no sneezing, but when i got into bed i could hear her sneezing a fair bit (they live in my bedroom) so i checked her and she had some watery blood coming out of her nostils. So i defernatly think she is sneezing it.
Called my vet first thing and the guy is away this week and the new lady exotic vet isnt in till thursday, so i called around the other pratcis he works in and found out she is in swansea today so have just booked ada in for 10.20. Ive never been there befor so just looked on th emap to see where it is and have wrote directions, so goiing to lave now to give me time to get lost as normaly happens with me.
Wish us luck.

Thanks everyone. We got lost 3 times but finaly found it. The vet says her poop looks greener than she would like which would say is linked to her liver, she checked it under the microscope just to make sure there nothing there. She got the stepherscope out and listened to her back, frount and head. couldnt hear anything wrong. She said the bleeding could be comming from sinus or lungs and as she isnt struggling to breath or tail bobbing and seems alert and happy she would think sinus is more likley. She thinks its all linked the the metacam she has been on saying overdose been on it too long. Said to stop the metacam as she thinks that caused it and as she is bleeding she shouldnt have painkillers anyway. She gave me some baytril as said as she is bleeding there is a risk of infection. so she on 0.02ml for a week then come back. she said she in my vets on thursday if she get worse but she cant see why she shouldnt make a full recovery.
Can anyone recomend something to put in her water to help her gut as she will be in antibiotics?

I can't give any advice on what to put in her water that would be safe alongside the baytril, maybe ask Barrie for his advice? It sounds like the vet gave you good advice though and she should soon be on the mend Keep us updated x
