Weird question, but what does Elfie smell like? Normal? Or something different?

Definitely something going on there, Moogie, but just what? Stace, I'm doubting it to be the lack of oils - Smudge isn't getting as much (if any) as she needs but her feathers are still sleek ......... the central heating could be partly to blame, but others have their budgies living in it too without having them look like little fluff-balls. Although a combination of both who knows??? When you spray Elfie, does his feathers go all wet-looking and stay that way? Or is he able to shake himself and repel the water?

Until you figure out what it is, have you got any vitamin/mineral/oil type supplements to feed Elfie? Just in case there's some dietary thing going wrong.
Either that, or a hot oil hair pack, lol.
But seriously, Elfie's feathers should not look like that. Are his tail feathers crumpled up as well?

Some meds expire very soon after opening. Others are okay for say, 18 months or so. Like Baytril, it keeps. Depends on the med. These sound like normal supplements, which probably don't have a short-life active ingredient, so likely they're okay if you've stored them in a cool, dark place. I don't have these, however, so can't say for sure. Gee. All that rambling above means...probably okay.

i would apply spot on to the back of his neck , just incase he has feather mites and give him a hand wash using a baby shampoo , rinse well and make sure he is dry before the evening

I called my vet to see if they would show me how to apply the spot on correctly and they said they will at no charge (i love elfs vets, they are so nice and helpful) also they said that they stock and use 'xeno' spot on which does the same thing-has any one on here heard or used this?

Maybe the vets will have some idea of what is going on. Good luck with the washing, Moogie! You are going to need it. I have washed a dirty face before, and the odd dirty bum, but the whole kit and caboodle? Glad it's you and not me.
