Good luck, Moogie. I hope it is just the central heating too. Have you tried shallow dishes of water around the room where he is? May be too late to make a difference now, coming to the tail-end of winter.

Another thought, check his preen gland to see it all looks normal. I was also thinking along Hezz's lines. Some extra humidity in the room might help, if it is the heating at fault. Has your skin and hair gone dry too?

Moogie have you tried a plate of wet basil leaves, or clipping wet leaves to something for him? Mine love that.

Marianne MarlowWhat extras have you given your buds when you've been a bit worried they are not getting all their nutrients from food? I remember you got some stuff from Paul Stannard. Avian Ultimate or something?

Marianne i tried a few times and he was having none of it-i have just orderd a clear birdie bath that can clip on the inside or out side of the cage-reviews on amazon were fantastic and loads of people said that their birds would never take a bath but for some reason as soon as they put this bath in they went straight in so fingers crossed elf will do the same,i will add in basil leaves also.... Stace i will try to check it but i hardly ever get to see him from the back as he wants to know what is going on and always turns to face me ha ha

I have one of the clear baths Moogie which attach to the doors and mine love it, they queue up for a dip but i have to say the girls are more accommodating than the boys for some reason. I also have a large stainless steel coop cup which attaches to the side and they love that too. Just a thought, how strong is your spay, i have a very fine spray that is just like a mist and i spray it from the top of the cage not directly at them, they love it and start preening straight away.

He parts the feathers on his tail and back to rub his head and beak on the gland and I can see it reasonably clearly.

The shallow dishes around the room are to add humidity to the air. Central heating and air conditioning really dry the air out, so by putting about some shallow dishes they will evaporate and keep the humidity up. I would put around about 3-4 dishes and keep an eye on how quickly the water disappears. I say shallow only in case someone reads and the bird goes down for a bath - it would be terrible if it couldn't get out!!!

Hezzi put dishes of water on my radiator too. I cover it with a metal colander so that a budgie can't fall in Looks classy!
