St James Vets have been very accommodating today, several calls from the receptionist who has been very helpful & meassages passed on to me from vet via her, but still no appointment with the avian vet as he is fully booked for the 2 mornings he is in the Swansea area and it seems Tink has to be referred to him. I am taking Tink back to Vets at 6pm,(GMT) which hopefully we will get some more meds, receptionist told me to tell vet to refer him to a gentleman named Lance Jepsom, who is the avian vet and has a very good solid reputation, feel like im finally getting somewhere. Tink doesnt seem to have deteriorated, but neither does he seem any better today, as advised ive removed fruit treat, put a covered hot water bottle in cage last night & today while i was in work, came home to find him fluffed up in his cage, still eating & drinking. My daughter got a few tweets when she came in from school, (Tink loves his big sister Kira!) Right now he perched on the edge of his cage door with a few tweets at the hoover, which normally he tries to compete with on a noise level! Hopefully should know more this evening after the Vet visit. Thankyou all once again for you kind words & replies. x

Poor Tink. It must be so worrying :-( I must say, 0.04 ml twice daily sounds an awful lot of meds to have to get down the poor little chap, even if the dilution makes this large amount necessary. I've never been prescribed more than a 0.01 ml baytril twice daily dose which is easy to administer as it literally is just one drop. Best of luck at the vets :-)

Thanks Nat, will be leaving in about 15 mins, apparently the vet we will be seeing, even though not avian, is quite knowledgeable with birds & small animals. Fingers & claws crossed. I thought that about the dosage too, but he has been a good boy taking it. I did wonder if there was a need for it to be diluted or if it would be less effective (this was done by staff not myself), I just trusted what they told me & followed their instructions. This is the 1st time in the 5.5yrs since we had him that he has been poorly, so meds is not something I'm clued up on. Tink is such a loving, friendly bird, hate seeing him suffer.

Home from Vets, saw a lovely guy named Nick, who has referred Tink to Lance the Avian Vet, have to phone back tomorrow to book an appointment, which should be early next week. In the meantime Tink has been a brave boy and had an injection of Convenia (sp?) been told its a long lasting antibiotic, bit relieved i dont have to put Tink through the added stress of being handled to give meds. Fingers crossed it will help perk him up, this vet also thinks respiratory & says Lance is likely to want to take a throat swab. Tink is on his gym, sleepy, with his head tucked in his wings and one eye on whats going on, he has had a busy few hours, on adventures in the car, meeting new people, and out of his usual surroundings, but did take a slight interest in his disco ball when we came home, which he hasnt done for days. Will keep you posted, and once again a big Thank You to you all for your support.

Some cold weak black tea is good for them when they are under the weather too. Good luck with the A/V next week. Keep us posted on how he is doing. *Hugs* to Tinks in particular.

Just a thought Tinksmum popped into my head from a vets visit with my rehomed parrot Nutnut a few years ago who was lethargic, sneezing and loose droppings. He had a seed only diet as either he wasn't offered veg in his past or perhaps was offered and didn't like them, but the vet said he had a fatty liver from a seed only diet. Perhaps if Tink doesn't like veg, he might nibble on some willow leaves and thin branches? The bark is meant to be really good for them Maybe if you don't already, you could add some vitamin supplement to his drinking water. The one thing they lack badly from only eating seed is vitamin A.

HezzThankyou, will keep this in mind, I never knew black tea was good for birds, learn something new everyday, made with normal teabags ok? Just a thought Tinksmum popped into my head from a vets visit with my rehomed parrot Nutnut a few years ago who was lethargic, sneezing and loose droppings. He had a seed only diet as either he wasn't offered veg in his past or perhaps was offered and didn't like them, but the vet said he had a fatty liver from a seed only diet. Tink is the only bird ive ever had that refuses fresh fruit & veggies, i have even tried making my own and mixing it with seed, but he still turns his nose up at it. Where would i get willow leaves? I use Johnsons vitamin drops in his water. Ive also gone through all his toys & got rid of anything that looks slightly tarnished in case of metal poisoning, so busy shopping online for new now. Tink still very sleepy today, but his poop looks a little more formed for better of a word. We also have an appointment Wednesday with Lance Jepsom the Avian Vet, i hear from many sources he has an excellent reputation. Thankyou again Nat.

He should be ok for vits then if you use johnsons vits drops I'm fortunate enough to live near a river where there are an abundance of willow trees. If you do find one, they root really easily in a bucket of water so you can keep the branch alive for a while without it dropping leaves, but it seems to be the bark the budgies relish the most. Its a shame there are so few avian vets in this country. Its the same here in Cambridge. We have one, and she only works 2 days a week in Cambridge! I'm glad you don't have to give him all that amount of meds for now. I think the first vet must have got the dilution wrong :/

I will go buy a willow tree if i have to! what about washing? just with water in case of pesticides? Lance Jepsom is the only avian vet in South Wales, he is in my area twice a week (Swansea). The appointment we were given last night was for 6th June, but i called again today & we manged to get one sooner, because of a cancellation. Im sso relieved i dont have to give him meds too, at least now he can hopefully concentrate on getting better & not worry about me having to handle him, really didnt like adding that stress to his little body.
