Its with great sadness to report that Tink has a large inoperable tumour, the only thing that can be done for him is palliative care. Vet said if he lasts 2-3mths it would be good. 6-8wk injections to help. Vet been very informative & i recommend him Lance Jepson, cant bring myself to talk about it right now. Screen blurry as i type this,in tears, im absolutely heartbroken. Thankyou all for your support. xx

Thankyou all so much, He wont survive this, its grown too big too fast, since he became down about 5-6wks ago, which means its growing at quite some rate, guess we would call it aggressive in us humans, i had originally put his grumpiness down to his cage being moved, but seems that was just coincidence. No wonder the poor Tink is sleeping so much.(as he is now) Vet has said alternate his water with vitamins & ACV. I will know when he is struggling & suffering greatly and to take him back to put him to sleep, the thought of this is killing me, i simply cannot take him on his final journey, nor let anyone else do it for me, I did read the 'forbidden topic' last week, which seems kinda, but again i dont know if i could do this, i just hope when his time comes he goes peacefully & not in pain. In the meantime lots of TLC, and make the most of what time we have left together. xx

Oh no, This is such sad news Helen :-( From my experience with tumours they are so damn weird you can never tell how its going to work out. Try not give up hope yet as sometimes tumours don't do what you expect and halt in their growth. Freddie had a massive rapidly growing tumour which actually shrunk and he's still here more than 3 years later with a small tumour inside near his crop. Last year Percy grew a rapid growth tumour the size of her head on her vent which has halted its growth and is still ok. (touch wood) I also suppose it depends where it is and if its interfering with any organs. If Tinks appetite and energy are poor or he is losing weight, soaked groats are a good supplement food to help energy levels and weight. Willow bark has medicinal properties too and both the leaves and bark contain a natural pain killer similar to asprin which I'm sure must help. However long Tink does have left he is going to have so much love and care from you and your family x

Its a large tumour in the abdominal area, possibly kidneys or liver, Lance (vet) did offer for me to feel it, but i couldn't bring myself to, i didn't want to put Tink through any more discomfort. (he was a good boy at the vets though) With the rate it is growing versus the time he become out of sorts it must be very aggressive, he said its pressing against the air sacs and that is why he is a little breathless, which makes sense as to why the 1st vet thought it was respiratory. vet also explained the bowel movements and why they are the way they are. He was very informative & compassionate. I think he was pretty gutted he couldn't do nothing for him too. Finding it really hard to get my head around this, especially as he seemed to perk up a bit after the ACV, daughter is understandably upset, son is out so doesn't know yet. Tink has rested since we got home 3hrs ago, and seems worse now, maybe because its been prodded & aggravated? maybe because he has had a busy day? i dont know, but he has had a little drink of black tea, he seems to be eating ok. Banging headache, ibuprofen for me i think.

Im still catching up on threads and have just read yours tinksmum. I am so very sorry about little Tink . I have had two buds over the years that have had tumour's, and as Nat said you never know how they are going to go. One went on quite comfortably for quite a few months but the other one didn't fair so well and i had to endure having her pts. I guess it's a difference between external tumours and internal tumours, something they seem to suffer with and its beyond our control . All you can do is make him comfortable, which you certainly are. Thinking of you and Tink.

These are the ones I use Helen I soak them for a few hours overnight to make them soft then rinse them through. Its important to remove them from the cage after about 6 hours as they start to go off. www.junglegold.com/groats-p-140.html
