Ive also discovered after talking to 2 local breeders today that apple cider vinegar is also good for sick birds, 1 cap diluted to a mug of water, stirred well, bought some today and Tink is drinking it. Its not a long term cure just a little pick me up until vets appointment. I will keep you updated on this short term remedy as its one not been mentioned, but needed something, cant get the sodium Barrie mentioned until next week, with the bank hol with postal ect, but bought that too, will be handy for the budgie 1st aid box.

Im very pleased to update that Tink hasnt slept for hrs! (well that is until now, probably worn outinterest in his toys, my tablet and daughters DS, with dad, not used to this much exercise! ) He has had little periods of rest, but has been more active tonight than he has been in weeks. Could I have a drunk budgie? He really, REALLY likes this apple cider vinegar in his water, im convinced that is what has done the trick. Still going to keep the vets appointment wednesday, as I was told this is only suitable as a temporary pick me up.

That's good news! Perhaps the acidity of the cider vinegar is helping? Let's hope so.

ACV is good for keeping the acidity level stable in their crop. Some of us use it on a regular basis, on healthy birds. I think it also good for promoting the growth of "good" bacteria in their guts (by keeping the ph slightly acidic. If what you have is organic, unfiltered ACV, this can be an on-going supplement, otherwise try to source some. Have a look through this thread, around 5mls per litre is the recommended dosage. budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/5200/apple-cider-vinegar

The 5mls is the regular amount just for general wellbeing.

Is your vet doing tests on Tinks' crop and poop?
They need to do smears and culture tests to identify parasites, fungi and bacteria that may be present and then identify exactly which ones are there to select the type of meds best used to treat them.

Yes I think he will be, This is the 1st time we are seeing avian vet, he had to be referred to him, Nick the vet who gave injection said Lance will most definatley do tests. As mentioned im still going along to the appointment even though Tink appears to be getting better, he loves the apple cider vinegar in his water, and the black tea but he flew to my daughters cup of white tea and very much enjoyed it! Snubbing the black while the white was within reach! Not sure if this is good for him, the white tea, but the bird I had growing up, Timmy, ate and drank anything, white tea was a regular part of his diet and he lived to the ripe old age of 13yrs old, and died just of old age. Timmy was amazing, honestly one of a kind it felt, happy memories.

tinksmum, I wouldn't let him into the milky tea - dairy foods are not good for them, even when well. Timmy sounds like one of those old geezers who smoked and drank themselves silly every day and still lived to 100.

Over the last 24hrs, whenever we have had hot dinks we have had to make Tink some black tea too, and put our cups where he cant get to them, most definatley owned by the bird, amusing and suprising at the same time, in the 5yrs he has been part of our family he has never gone near our food or drink, its as if I have a different bird, he gas even gone in his bath, now ive got him something that doesnt have high sides which is a shallow plastic cat dish. He still isnt 100% but so much better than he was, I really did fear the worse. I think you have hit the nail on the head with that description of Timmy, Hezz

Thankyou, been a hectic few days. Tink has his appointment at 11.50 so will update, his poops still not right, but he seems alot happier, not sleeping or fluffing his feathers as much. Is takinginterest in some new toys, my poor baby being spoilt. Really am convinced its the apple cider vinegar.
