Further to this post: budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/11703/custard-vet-visit-40pm-todayCustards beak has grown quite long and it's time to go to the vet for a trim. Because we want to see a specific vet, we have to wait until 8th October. These are pics that I took this morning to email to the vet and he agrees that it's time to take action. Custard can still eat and drink, but I have had to fill the seed pots higher than usual and keep an eyes on his droppings to make sure. No way am I going to attempt this one myself:

It looks as though he has broken bits off, like we can do with the nails.

Poor little custard it does look 'odd'! I do hope it's ok until the vet can trim it.

Oh, poor Custard. Hopefully Mr Vet will be able to deal with this issue. It does look it has a hole in it; as though the rapid growth is compromising the strength of the beak. I can't remember what exactly you are doing for him, Marianne. Is it just the herbal treatments that he is on, or is he having something along the lines of Hepatosyl as well?

With regards to treatment, am giving him aloe in his water once a week. vitamins on seed twice a week, they also get calcivet in water twice a week. Not been prescribed any drugs yet. Will ask about Hepatosyl when I go on the 8th. OR I could send the vet an email now..

WE would guess Custard at around 3... BUT we have no idea. The person that gave him to us got him from someone that found him in a churchyard. So we guessed him at 1 year old at that point. We have had him for 2 years. So he could be 10 years old for all we know! Bertie was totally beautiful!!

Bertie and Custard could be twins. Such handsome fellows. Hope the vet can give you advice on Custard's beak. Poor little guy. The beak looks very fragile.
