Tell me about it. I can't go into pet shops they do make me want to take them all. Course I can't!

We only have one pet shop supplier now that has animals - the others have chosen not to go that track and are supplies of stock but not the actual animal. The one we do have has a 3 day compulsary cool off period on their cats and dogs. They also have birds. Why no cooling off period for the birds? They obviously see the birds as a more disposable item.

I have been pondering over the pet shop budgie and here is what I think.......it obviously has to come from a breeder first, who has looked after it really well, giving it all the best seed and fruit and veggie's etc, it is then sold to the pet shop,or he would be over run, and immediately becomes a commodity, an item to sell and make money, seed and water is given by the pet shop owner and that's it's lot, so the quicker the BUDGIE LOVER...."you" comes along and buy's it, and get it off "their hands" the better, the commodity now reverts back to a budgie with love and all that goes' with it.......... Nice thread Brian. Very touching. That's why I never sell my budgies.

Hope you don't mind me commenting quite a way through this discussion?
Totally agree with all of you about the budgie/pet shop scenario - we got Mont from a breeder, but know there are some terrible pet shops around with this obscene way of housing budgies - perhaps we should start a campaign for the "free range budgie" just like chickens? After all they have to have toys to play with too and the right amount of space to be seen as free range, perhaps a petition is in order?

If you want to start one Sam then I'll support it. Maybe we could get publicity somehow?!

Trust me guys, you don't want to see pet shops in this part of the world I have seen the treatment of animals who are rather valuable to people through parts of Africa. Not good. So, yes, I can imagine, BB. Pets are a luxury not many can afford in many parts of the world.
