Excellent guys If we get a petition going somehow then I can put a little button for it at the top of the forum. Fantastic Marianne - that would be great. We do need to research this a bit more i.e. who would we give the petition in to? What with the marvel of technology probably quite a few organisations? What about Geoff Capes being in on it? Cheers Brian we all pull together, plus with Moogie making it more public, who knows how far this could go? Plus we also have Twitter we can advertise on - the possibilities are endless!

I guess it would need to go to whoever regulates pet-shops. They must need a licence to sell animals and I guess that means that they are regularly inspected - or should be.

Maybe what we want is a change in the Pet Animals Act of 1951 (An act to regulate the sale of pet animals) This is what they have to adhere to when they apply for a licence to sell animals www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Geo6/14-15/35

There is of course: epetitions.direct.gov.uk/But we'd have to get 100,000 signatures for them to debate this in the house of commons, it's a big ask!

I thought about that too, but like you say, it is a big ask! Esecially in these times we are in politically. BUT with careful planning and advertising, whose to say that we wont be able to achieve it? Afterall, budgies seems to be coming back in fashion with people and there are MANY animals lovers out there, but also like the idea of the Pet Animals act, we may have to build up to the epetitions by doing other things first - will do a bit of research and come back

Government seems to be the way to go if we want that legislation changed/improved.

Nice thread Brian. Very touching. That's why I never sell my budgies. Thanks BB, do you sell to private buyers? They go free to friends and family. But they must buy the cage and seeds and show me first or give me the money to buy the stuff for them. I keep some though

I will try to take a picture or two of a local pet shop and you will realize that it will be cruel to sell them the budgies.

If you are interested to see how people approach petitions, here is a link to an animal group petitions and such on pet stores in Australia. www.saynotoanimalsinpetshops.com/People have tried for many years to improve the condition of pet stores. Mostly for the benefit or cats and dogs, rather than birds though. I really don't like going in to them. I just feel sorry for the fate the animals might meet. So many people just don't realise the responsibility involved in keeping a pet, and caring for it in a holistic way - both its physical and emotional wellbeing and needs. And then there are those who supply the stores, motivated only by the profit. That's how we get those horrid puppy factories. I think that we, as humans, don't realise that animals think and feel in a very similar way to us. Just they are not as smart. Even though I am not vegetarian, I wonder sometimes at some point in the future we'll look back at the way we farm and consume other creatures and think how barbaric we were. After all, the same has happened in so many other aspects of our lives and our societies.
